A group in Pakistan, called the Taliban, have been plotting to kill a 15 year old girl named Malala Yousafzai for being a crusader for girls' rights to go to school. They see her as adeadly to their way of life. Malala the Powerful In 2007, the Taliban began seizing control control of Swat. In January 2009, the Taliban ordered all girls' schools to close. One of those schools included Malala's dad's school.Despite what the Taliban said, her father decided to keep his school open which wasvery dangerous. From then on, Malala andher family lived under constant threat. In May 2009, the Pakistani Army launched a full-scale attack against the Taliban in swat. Malala launched a full-scale atack on her own. Malala's crusade empowerd her and other girls. Because of this, in 2011, the President ofPakistan awarded her the first ever NationalYouth Peace Prize. In 2010, notes began appearing underMalala's door, ordering her to give up her crusade or else. But Malala refused to back down. Ever since then, the bullet has severely damaged her hearing and fractured her skull, causing her brain to swell dangerously. Still, 132 million children and teens around the world do not attend school. Malala'sfather has been given a job that enables the family to remain in the U.K. Last March she started high school and gave a powerful quote to the news crew about being proud to be a student.
