Nelson Mandela wasthe first African-AmericanPresident of South Africa.He spent 27 years in prisonfor trying to overthrow thepro-apartheid government.After he left prison, he worked to achieve human rights,and a better future for everyonein South Africa. The Little Rock Ninewas a group of nineAfrican-American students who wanted to attend Central High Schoolin Little Rock Arkansas.They were rejected acceptance to the high school becauseof their race. Ithappened in 1957during the desegregationcrisis, which was a big part of the Civil Rights Movement. Eventually segregation was illegal in Little Rock and the Little Rock Nine were the first African-Americanstudents to go to Central High schoolwhich was earlier that year segregated.
