Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 Hate List by Jennifer BrownSonia Tracy and Claudia Daub Hardships presented in high school and college lead to adolescent suicide and aggressive behavior among teensand young adults. From 2010 to 2013 the percentage of students who have been hospitalized for mental health concerns, have intentionally hurt themselves or others, and have attempted suicide have gone up. Nick Levil was the mastermind behind a school shooting and committed suicide due to the pressure of fitting in in high school. Population of 40,128,842 people within the ages of 5-14, 184 people committed suicide. However, from a population of 42,407,421 people within the ages of 14-24, 4,140 people committed suicide. This proves that high school students present more deaths. Nick Levil and Valerie Leftman were a couple in high school who created a hate list. On this list were people who torment and torture them because they are outcasts. Valerie felt judged by everyone around her in school. She lived with guilt and was scared by the event Nick took place in and his suicide. Penn States psychologist Ben Locke quoted that, ...something is wrong, things are getting worse with regard to college students mental health. Suicide is the second leading cause in death from the ages of 12 to 18 and third leading cause of death for people from the ages 18 to 22. More teenagers and young adults die from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease, COMBINED. Everyday problems lead to suicidal thoughts and suicidal behavior. An individual who commits suicide may not always be diagnosed as depressed. Most teens hide their problems. For Valerie, it was dealing with losing nick, feeling like even more of an outcast, managing her guilt, trying to make people have trust in her, her father having an affair, school work, and graduating.
