Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 GERMS Germs are tiny invaders that get into our body and make us sick. What are organisms? Organisms are tiny living organisms that we can't see with our eyes. We need a special instrument called a microscope to see them. Where do we find germs? Germs are everywhere! They are outside in the dirt. They are on our pets. They are on the grocery cart. They are on the toilet. How do germs make us sick? Germs are sneaky. They enter into our bodies without us even noticing.Once they enter in our bodies, they make themselves at home. They eat nutrients that come from the foods that we eat and steal our energy. Then they produce something called toxins in our bodies. These are bad things and act like poisons. They will hurt our bodies. These toxins will make ushave symptoms like a fever, a cough, rash, runny nose, vomiting, or diarrhea. How do we protect ourselves from germs? Germs are spread many different ways. They can go through theair as someone coughs, sneezes, or breathes. They can be spreadthrough blood, saliva, and sweat; stay away from these. If someone has a cold and blows their nose and you shake their hand the germscan spread to you. Wash your hands as often as you can. Especially after playing outside, petting pets, using the bathroom, going to the store, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. You can also cover your mouth when you cough by coughing into your elbow. You can cover your mouth when you sneeze the same way. Then always make sure to wash your hands. How are germs spread? kidshealth.org
