Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 The Civil War In 1619 a Dutch ship sailed to Virginia. This ship had 20 black people. Virginia had purchased these people as slaves. 1641 Massachusetts Bay legalized slavery. That means that slavery was legal and allowed. In 1660 Virginia also legalizes slavery. So now slavery is allowed in Virginia. 1663 Maryland was the first colony to recognize slavery for life. They also passed a law that is a slave became Christian they could go free. 1667 Virginia also passed the same law as Maryland.That if you become a Christian you were free to go. 1739 in the town of Stono, South Carolina a band of slavesescaped and made an insurrection and made their way to Floridawere they could be free. 1793 congress passed a new law called the First Fugitive Act.This act allowed for the recovery of runaway slavesauthorized the arrest of fugitives. In 1832 a new law was passed called the Tariff Act.This act reduces some duties for slaves. But the south, stilldissatisfied threaten secession. 1849 Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery. She returned to the South 19 times and freed 300 other slaves. In 1860 a new president was elected it was Abraham Lincoln.He was the new president. After a long time of slavery and argument a war began.A fight over slavery and freedom.This war was called the Civil War. Battle of Gettysburg Battle of Shilogh The First Bull Run General George G. Mead General Joseph E. Johnston Joseph was born in Virginia 1807. He went to a lot of camps as a kid that taughthim about war and how to lead. Inthese camps it made him want to lead for himself.When he grew up he became a hard working generalfor the confederate side of the war. Joseph lived a long life in till he finally died in 1891. General George was born in Spain December 31, 1815.George served as a union general in the American Civil War.George was known for defeating the Confederate general Robert E. Lee in the battle of Gettysburg. George served for a long time he started in 1835-1836. Then he stopped for a while and then became General and served through 1842-1872 when he died at age 57 inPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania. The First Bull Run was the first battle in the Civil War.This battle was not only called Bull Run it isalso called the First Manassas. The First Manassas wasfought July 21, 1861 in Prince William County, Virginianear the city of Manassas. The United States and Confederateside each had 18,000 soldiers that were poorly trained and lead.This made the battle very hard to win. This is the Battle of Bull Run. A dark time in American history, the Civil War. A time of slavery,argument and war. The Civil War had many conflicts that lead up to the war. The war had major events that caused the war to begin, there was also a lot of great and famousgenerals that lead these soldiers and there were major and severe battles that happened during the Civil War. The battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle in American history. The warwas fought July 1-3, 1863 in Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania. Thiswar was very violent on the UnitedStates side 14,531 people werewounded and 5,369 captured. on the Confederate side 12,693 were woundedand 5,830 were captured as you can seethis was a sad and violent war for people.This is the battle of Gettysburg. The battle of Shiloh was also known as the Pittsburg Landing. This battle was fought April 6-7, 1862 in Southwestern Tennessee. The battle of Shiloh was not the most violent warin American History on the UnitedStates side only 8,408 solders were wounded and 2,885were captured or went missing. The Confederate side had it alittle less violent with 8,012 wounded and 959were captured or went missing.
