Morocco and Algeria were also home to campaign efforts. Japanese Americans were sent into internment camps (February 1942) Two or so months after Pearl Harbor all Japanese-Americans were sent into internment camps. This happend as a result to an invasion of Italy. D-Day (June 6,1944) The Normandy landings, d-day, took place on 6 June 1944. It was the allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord. The Battle of Leyte Gulf (October 1944) This was a battle fought over sea that crippled the Japanese navy. This permitted the U.S. Invasion of Philipines. The Battle of Buldge (December 16,1944) A major German offensive campaign launched through Belgium, France, and Luxemborg. This was towards the end of WWII. Claiming of Iwo Jima (March 26, 1945) The Battle of Iwo Jima was a battle where the Marines landed on and captured the island. The name for this was "Operation Detachment". The Fall of Berlin (April 25, 1945) Soviet troops surrounded Berlin. 5 days later Hilter killed himself. Atomic Bomb (August 1945) President Truman ordered an atomic bomb to be used on an attack against Japan. They dropped it on Hiroshima. Hydrogen Bomb (August 9,1945) A hydrogen bomb was used in attack against Japan. It was named "FAT MAN" and dropped on Nagasaki.
