Laws are written, discussed and voted on in Congress.must be 25 years of age, a U.S. citizen for at least seven years, and a resident of the state (but not necessarily the district) they represent. The President is the head of the executive branch, which makes laws official.He appoints or removes cabinet members and officials. He negotiates treaties, and acts as head of state and commander in chief of the armed forces.The executive branch also includes the Vice President and other officials, such as members of the cabinet. The cabinet is made up of the heads of the 15 major departments of the government. The cabinet gives advice to the President about important matters. Now in order to be President, you must officially be 35 years old and be an American citizen who has lived in the United States for 14 years. Along with these official guidelines, candidates are expected have political experience, keep a stable image and serve as a good example. The Judicial Branch includes criminal and civil courts and helps interpret the United States Constitution. Checks and balances The actual people who make up the judicial branch, the judges and justices, must be nominated by the executive branch and approved by the legislative branch. This gives the other branches of government an important say in what kind of people will work for the judicial branch. This is a very important process, especially since these justices serve for life. The judicial branch has a very important power it may use to keep the other two branches in line. This power is called ¨judicial review¨ the legislative branch may remove members of the judicial branch through a process known as impeachment
