They both have equally important jobs. The state is more school and business related. Central is more about laws and armed forces. They also have shared powers, like taxes and setting up courts. Federalism protects from tyranny because neither one has more power than the other and they can control each other by also controlling them selves. Separation of power is about how all three branches in goverment have different jobs. The first one is makes laws second is to enforce laws and the third is interperets laws. Also if you elected to the House of Representatives to serve at the same time on the Supreme Court you will have the lawmakers and judges having to much power that is why they are seperated. This guards against tyranny because not one person or a group has all the power to get what ever they want. Separation of power is about how all three branches in goverment have different jobs. For example, the Legislative branch can check the Executive branch by impearching the President. The President can check the power of the Supreme Court by nominating the justices to the Supreme Court. Finally the Supreme Court can check the Legislature by saying if the law is unconstitutional. This guards against tyranny because they all can check each others power to see if anyone is getting too much. Checks and Balances Large states vs Small states is about there to different powers. The Large states have more representatives in the House of Reperesentatives because it is bases on population. Do not worry The small states get there share the Senate have two senators from each state. This protects against tyranny because the small states do have a vote and the large states don't have all the power to pass a law. The Large states have more representatives in the House of Representatives than the Small states because it is based on population which the Small states don't have room for. Do not worry, the Small states get their fair share too because the Senate has two senators from each state.
