All 110 people on board are killed. 2000, August 23 Gulf Air Flight 072, an Airbus A320, crashes into the Persian Gulf off Manama, Bahrain, while attempting to land. All 143 passengers and eight crew members are killed. 2008 August 20 - Spanair Flight 5022, a McDonnell Douglas MD-82 crashes on takeoff at Barajas Airport in Madrid, Spain. Of the 172 people on board 154 are killed.
