The Big Six These 6 men got togetherone day to organize this bigmarch. Their purpose was to gain recognition for thingslike a *federal employment program. The plan was approved by the President and these men only had 2 months to prepare. The Preparation The 2 months of preparation were twolong ones. Many things were done inthis time period. In only the first two weeks thousands of copies of the "Organizing Manual" were given out to the protesters. Money also needed to be raised. So people sold different buttons for 25 centeach. They sold 175,000 and even had to order more! The Day of the March On the day of the march 250,000 people showedup to show their support, and they weren't justAfrican American. That march on Washington wasjammed packed with musical performances bypeople like Bob Dylan and speeches by people likeMartin Luther King. That day many people didn't careif they were hot or tired they cared about the cause. That march led way for the Civil Rights Bill includinghousing, voting, and education to be passed. These are 2 of the buttons they sold. Mr.King gives famous "I Have a Dream" speech. Here Bob Dylan is performing his song. Federal Employment Program: This is a program giving all working people equal rights in the work force.
