Important Information Maya Angelou was born as Marguerite Johnson, April 4, 1928She had a rough life growing up but soonstarted to rise as an underdog.She became successful in many ways. For example, she was a poet, a singer, a civil rights activist, and more! As a young girl, her parents got divorcedand that's when her harsh rollercoaster of a life began. She was stuck at her grandma's house for a while until all family problems were settled. Even though she wasn't involved in her family situationsat this time, her life still had some up and downs. She did not get along with her mom's boyfriend and he dad's girlfriend, when she went to visit. One day, when Maya and her dad's girlfriend were home alone,they ended up getting in a physical fight. She left her father's house right away and soon found her mom. Important Information When Angelou was with her mom, life was much easier than living with her dad.Her lifestyle was more fair here.Angelou's brother, Bailey, also made life much easier for her.Bailey helped Maya look on the bright side of the world.Her mom also helped her enroll in good, educational schools.Angelou also sang in clubs like the Purple Onion.She was such a good singer that she was asked to sing in playswhen directors came to see her. She was a success!Soon she had a son and named him Clyde.Yes, Clyde did change her life quite a bit, she became a full time mom but, she had not been gaining a lot of money which affects when she can buy for Clyde and herself.Soon she had redeemed herself and started working at the Purple Onion again. Once again she was asked to perform in many playsaround the world. She started to regain her wealth. Throughout this time period, she had became a poet, director, actress, singer, civil rights activist, and many, many more.
