The colonists did this because they were upset that the tea taxes were raised. PARLIMENT STRIKES BACK PARLIMENT STRIKES BACK The British were very mad at the colonists for throwing the tea into theHarbor. As a punishment, they decided to pass four laws that were called the Intolerable Acts. The first was no ship could enter or exit the Harbor. The second was, the colonists were not aloud to hold town meetings unless theyhad the governor's approval. Third, they aloud officers and officials whomight be charged to be tied in Britain or Canada. Lastly, They passed a Quartering Act which states no redcoats could camp in tents along the Boston Common. CONTINELTAL CONGRESS double click to change this header text! A meeting was called to order in Philadelphia. Delegates from 12 of the thirteen colonies were going to this meeting. They declared that they were not going to export any goods to Britain until the Intolerable Acts were repealed. BATTLE AT LEXINGTON AND CONCORD The British General planned to march on Concord because he heard that the minutemen had armies. Once they got to Lexington, an unknown person shot a cannon which started the fight. This caused the British to retreat. COMMON SENCE Thomas Paine wrote the Common Sence to declare the colonist's independence. Once the document was finished in 1776, many people started reading it and 500,000 copies were sold six months later. THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE The Declaration of Independence has a preamble, which is and introduction, then three main parts. The first section is about the natural rights, which states that all men are equal. The second section is all the wrongs done by the king. The last section talks about the independence that the colonists want. OLIVE BREANCH PETITION The delegates sent a peace petition to King George. They declared the respect they have for the king, then asked him to repeal the Intolerable Acts. This document was called the Olive Branch Petition. THE BOSTON TEA PARTY THE CONTINENTAL ARMY The Second Continental Congress decided to set up the Continental Army. They chose to do this when thinking of what to about the makeshift army gathering Boston. They chose George Washington as the commander. BATTLE OF BUNKER HILL The Battle of Bunker Hill was the first major battle of the Revolution. This battle proved that the British would not be easily defeated. It also showed that the Americans could fight bravely.
