To the point you go insane and begin to imagine your own funeral or where you decide that killing someone you love is okay. In the short story "The Tell Tale heart" and poem "I Felt a Funeral in my Brain", the narrators live in darkness. It was used in the story to foreshadow that the narrator was going to kill the old man. {para, 1 line 2}"And Mourners to and fro." This line was used in the poem to show that somebody has passed away. The second similarity that the poem and the short story have in common is that they both use repetition. {para 3 line 20-21}"I moved it slowly--very, very slowly." Repetition in the short story was used to build up suspense. {para 5 line 2}"And i dropped down, and down-" In the poem repetition is used to build up suspense as well. The last similarity that the poem and the short story have in common is that they both use capitalization to make a point. {para 3 line 28} ""For it was not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye."Capitalization is used to show that the narrator is pointing out the eye. {para 3 line 9}"And then i heard them lift a Box." Capitalization is used in this line to show that the narrator wants us to pay more attention to the box. Conclusion Both the short story by Edgar Allan Poe and the poem by Emily Dickinson have many similarities. For example both writings revolve around darkness, both use repetition to build up suspense and both use capitalization to make things stand out.
