If you are anywhere near the central area of Texas, the best place to find cover is in your basement, away from windows, in a storm shelter, or in an old cellar. Although they lived in the center danger zone of Tornado Alley, they were no where near prepared for this storm. This tornado tore a giant strip at least8 miles long and over a mile wide. It tore apart a large community in only a little bit of time. over 5,000 homes were destroyed or damaged. 20,000 people were left homeless. 45 died and1,700 were injured. 1, 2.
