Today, students, especially the youngest ones, are growing up in a world where technology is a necessity and the use of technology is their lives is far more importantthan students even five years before them. Without access to internet and other technological devices, kids and studentswill continue to fall behind the rest of the world, making their lives harder and continually limiting their opportunitiesin the work place, which will limit their income. This process can very easily and quickly have a snowball effect to where nations, countries, and cities without access to internet and technology will quickly fall into poverty and their people will suffer. There is no easy or definite answer to overcome this digital divide. Theorist predict that a helping factor will be the decline inthe price of technology as the years pass, but this is not a concrete answer to this issue. Although the cost of technology doesplay a large roll in who can use it and who has access to it, there are several other factors in play. One other factor is that there are millions of people in the world, one out of ever four, that are functioning in life as illiterate. The divide can be closed, but not fully overcome. We can continue to close this gap by encouraging the teaching of technology and its uses to those wholack the understanding and to continue to fund programs that help bring aid and funding to those people in areas of the worldwhere they do not have the option to make the decision between technology and not, because of their limited circumstances. The divide presented is between the amount of people in the worldwho use and have access to the internet and technology and those who don't. This divide is present for several reasons, such as economic state, illiteracy, and lack of knowledge.
