Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 What it is... How you get it... How you cure it... How to prevent it... Decompression Sickness What is it and how to stop it. Decompression Sickness is the resulting discomfortcaused by the body dissolving too much Nitrogen Gas into the bloodstream following a dive in high pressure situations. You can get decompression sickness by surfacing too soon and too fast from deep depths without allowing your body to slowly release and safely rid yourself of Nitrogen Gas, there are other ways, but are less common than diving. (I.e., hot air balloons, or quickly leaving a high pressure aircraft) Should you get Decompression Sickness, don't panic. There are ways to counteract the symptoms. This way is a decompression chamber. This medical device is used to increase the pressure of the atmosphere around you, and allow your body to release the Nitrogen like it was supposed to as you ascended. When Diving, make sure you know your depth at all times and allow yourself the time to slowly rise from your depth allowing yourself the appropriate amount of time to decompress which varies depending on the depth, your experience, and time spent underwater.
