Once each spring, on or around Chinese New Year, it comes out of hiding to attack people, and prefers children. Nian means ¨year¨ in Chinese, As we known that Nian comes yearly, so we called it Nian What is the mythology about the Nian Long Long ago, there is a monster called Nian, it came to the village each year. The monster Nian always attack people especially children. Once, there is a mysterious old man came to the village the day before Nian came to village. He is welcomed by the people who lived there. As the return, he taught them the way to drive away the monster Nian. When Nian came next day, people but red title on the door, burned the bamboo to make the noise, in order to drive away Nian. At last,they succeed. So as to memory that day, people start to celebrate new year and have red banner on the door and explode the firecrackers.
