The depression helped peoplecome into power and othercountries were to weak to stand against them. Causes Hitler's Actions Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in January 1933-He quickly transformed Germany into a totalitarian fascist state. -His efforts to build a territorially larger and ethnically purer fatherland for the German leader control over the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia.-In return, Hitler promised to leave the rest of Czechoslovakia alone.-Breaking his promise he then invaded Poland in 1939, France and Great Britain declared war. Treaty of Varsallies The Germans were unhappy about thetreaty and thought that it was too harsh. Terms of the Treaty:- Germany should accept the blame for starting World War One- Germany had to pay 6,600 million pounds for the damage caused by the war- Germany was only allowed to have a small army and six naval ships. No tanks, no air force and no submarines were allowed. - Land was taken away from Germany and given to other countries. The League of Nations was aninternational organisation set up in 1919 to help keep worldpeace. It was intended that all countries would be membersof the League. In theory theLeague of Nations was a goodidea and did have some earlysuccesses. But ultimately it wasa failure. The whole world washit by a depression in the late1920s. Also that the League had no power, army and not all countries joined the League of Nations. The Rhineland: reoccupied The Rhineland was German landon the border with France.Under Versailles,Germany wasforbidden from putting troops there.Hitler took a gamble andmarched his army into this area. The Munich Agreement As Hitler grew stronger he wanted more. Europe feared war over the Sudetenland.After talks in Munich, Germany,the Sudetenland was given to Hitler.In return he promised this was his last territorial demand. of By Tealiah Haines
