Created with Fabric.js 1.4.5 Mummies, Gods, and Beliefs Mummies The idea of mummies came from the Egyptian process called mummification which is a process that the Ancient Egyptians created to preserve the body's of the dead as long as possible.The reason the Ancient Egyptians created this process because they believed that each person had 5 parts of their soul the Ren, Ba, Ka, Sheut, and the Ib. They believed that the Ba and the Ka would live on even after the human's death, if the body seemed like it was alive. So they found a way for the body to be preserved so that the Ba and Ka can travel to the Afterlife. Mummification The mummification process was a long process the Egyptians used to preserve the body which could last more that 70 days between drying the body and wrapping it. The Egyptians used Natron on the body to dry it out so that it can be preserved. The drying process could take anywhere from 35-70 days for the body to dry out completely. After the body was dried it was rubbed with oils, they plugged the nostrils and ears, then they poured melted resin over the body to serve as a watertight seal. Then the wrapping process began. Wrapping could take over 15 days. As the wrapping happens different amulets and Egyptian symbols are put in between my the layers of cloth wrappings. The mummification process was very important to the Egyptians because it meant you could go on to the afterlife.
