The American dream means taking pride in what you have, not obsessing over the things that you want when they are not obtainable. This song is about a man who needs to start over in a place. He has bad luck in his old town and he needs to move to a different place in order to start over and move on with his life. He is satisfied with being free instead of being rich. "Everything that I've got, is just what i got on" "I ain't rich, But Lord I'm free" "I aint got a dime but what i got is mine" Strait is saying that tomorrow is a new day and he has a whole new day to make choices. He has the chance to change and make new decisions with every new day and the American dream allows people to do that. You can make bad choices one day and then good choices the next without being judged. "When that sun is high in that Texas sky, I'll be bucking it to county fair" "Amarillo by morning, Amarillo's where I'll be" Strait is taking advantage of the right to move wherever he likes instead of just being stuck in one spot. Part of the American dream is to be able to move to wherever you like and start over. He is going to a new place to get a new lifeand to hopefully, start over.
