The bodies of people affected by albinism aren'tcapable of making melanin, the chemicalresponsible for giving color to hair, eyes, and skin. This form of the condition is called oculocutaneous albinism (OCA). One in 75 peopleis a carrier foralbinism. Most forms of albinism are recessive traits, meaning even if bothparents are carriersthe offspring only has aone in four chance ofreceiving albinism.
