White settlers decided whether or not to allow slavery in their borders. The act allowed white settlers whether from the South or North to decide their own way living with or without slaves. Dred Scott Decision Dred Scott Decision brought conflict between the rights of slaves and the Supreme Court. The court denied Dred Scott asa citizen but the property of a man. Boththe North and South thought differently. The North believed that all men were created equal but the South saw slaves as property and not men. The Courtsdecision to open all territories to slavery when the North didnt agree caused a conflict. John Brown planned the raid to start an armed slave riot to end slavery. By leading a small group on a raid to Harpers Ferry it started up a battle of treason. John Brown group attacked a federal army arsenal at Harpers Ferry. The Southerners feared that James Brown raid would start a slave rebellion and Northerners saw Brown as a hero and a representative of the antislavery movement. The raid led to the Civil War, a fight between proslavery and antislavery protestors. The South Carolina secede is a conflict between the Southern States and a Republican president in the White House.After Abraham Lincoln won presidency,Southerners feared Congress would end slavery. South Carolina was the first to secede from the Union and after the next several weeks, six more Southern states pulled out. Together they formed the Confederation States of America, with Jefferson Davis as president. By pulling out from the nation and forming a Union, it separated the South from the North. The United States wasntunited but separated as different Unions between antislavery and proslavery due to the fear of ending slavery in the South. The Election of 1860 split the Nation and drove a separation between the North and South. The Democratic Party split into northern and southernfactions, competing for their opinion on slavery. The Southern Democrats nominated Stephen Douglas who lacked popular sovereignty. Abraham Lincoln was nominee against Stephen Douglas by the Northerners, who refused the extension of slavery to the western territories. Southern Democrats also picked John C. Breckwho wanted slavery allowed in all territories. This was a divisive issueof slavery because the South nominated a person who agreed with slavery and the North nominated a person who was antislavery.
