This caused an outrage amongst the colonists in Boston, when the other colonists heard of what happened, they immediately sided with the other colonists. To get the laws removed, the colonists boycotted British goods until the laws were retracted. The Tea Act was passed by Parliament on May 10, 1773. The act was designed to prop up the East India Company. The act was not supposed to increase revenue, and didnt impose any new taxes. The East India Company at the time was floundering financially and was burdened with 8 million pounds of unsold tea. The act made it so the tea would be sent directly to the colonies and sold at a bargain price. The Intolerable Acts The Tea Act 9 8 5 2 10 1 3 7 6 4
