Before the 1920's women were seen as pure.smoking and drinking were a "mans thing"and it was thought of as disgusting for a women to bedoing it.flappers were known to smoke and drink more than normal.they were usually unmarried, and had no responsibility. A flappers appearance was seen as raunchy and cheap.Their hair was bobbed (Cut short).skirts were worn above the knee cleavage was much more apparent.they wore many accessories including long necklacesshiny head dresses. . Women before the 1920's were very modest.any amount of cleavage was covered up.Dresses were past the knee.Smoking or excessive drinking was not seen in publicor in homes for that matter. accessories were kept to a neckalce pearl or diamondand a ring or two. The one thing that really set apart "traditional" women from flappers was sex.traditional women were virgins until after marriage, the ideaof "saving yourself" for your husband was very big.it use to be that if you had sex before marriage that you wereseen to be undesirable.For flappers it was seen as not a big deal.casual sex normal to them.This also why flappers were seen as prostitutes.back the the only difference between a flapper and a prostitutewas one got paid for what they did and the other didnt A flapper was likely seen at/in a speakeasy.a usually under ground place, due to prohibition,sold illegal alcohol and played the upcoming yet looked down upon music known as jazz.flappers would dance all night long to this music.some would even preform for the men.
