In present time, the colosseum is a significant representation of Rome, and you can still find some traces of the entertainment back then in our world now. For example, we have violent and gruesome movies for entertainment, one of the similarities between the past and present as back then the gladiatorial fights were considered one of the most important forms of entertainment, and the gruesome fights were watched live. Another similarity would be some of the sports played, such as the ball games and board games. Horse racing nowadays also represents Chariot racing back in ancient Rome. Nowadays, as well as stadiums with cheering fans that show the similarity to the ancient Collosseum, we also have theatrical and Musical performances, with some traces of ancient Rome still in them, such as the masks and the technique Mime. Romes most famous amphitheatre, the Colosseum, was known for its capacity to hold 50,000 spectators. Events that were held at it consisted mainly of Gladiator Fights, Animals fighting each other, Gladiators fighting Animals and Animal Hunts. The animals were kept in cages underneath the colosseum. It was free to watch, and was a great way to entertain the poor. The Theatre is also one of the main forms of entertainment. Male parts were played with a brown mask and female parts with a white one. The masks had faces on them according to the emotions in that play, or played by that character.Women werent allowed to act, and men or young boys usually took their roles. Women were not allowed to act, so their roles were normally played by a man or a young boy wearing a white mask. Entertainment was provided to give people something to do in their spare time. It was also a form of keeping the poorer people in Rome under control and to prevent uprisings and rebellions from happening. The Theatre is also one of the main forms of entertainment.
